Microlight aircraft wreckage to be brought out in two weeks

Sungai Rambai Aerodrome chairman, Datuk Hassan Abd Rahman, said the efforts to bring out the wreckage would take time to due to several technical factors which must be considered, including not disrupting the investigations conducted by the authorities.

"The wreckage will be brought out as soon as possible with the cooperation of several parties such as the police, fire brigade and the Civil Aviation Department (DCA).

"We also do not want the wreckage to affect the river ecosystem," he told reporters when met at the Deepavali open house held by Melaka Company Affairs, Human Resource and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee Datuk M.S Mahadevan here today.

Hassan said the cost of bringing out the wreckage would be fully borne by the family of the pilot who died in the crash as the aircraft belonged to him.

He said the aircraft which was piloted by Yee Yoon Fah, 54, had been given permission to land at the Sungai Rambai Aerodrome here but the flight did not get clearance from the DCA.

Last Saturday, Yee was killed after the microlight he was flying crashed after taking off from the Sungai Rambai Aerodrome at about 10.30am while his friend Mohd Shahrul Shafiri, 35, who was a member of the General Operations Force suffered injuries in the face and body.
