Minister Salleh calls for police probe into contents of AG's report on 1MDB in Sarawak Report

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak today called for a police investigation to determine how news portal Sarawak Report reportedly obtained some contents of the Auditor-General's report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

He said the investigation had to be undertaken urgently and expeditiously to prevent further leakages of official secrets documents which may put the country's security in jeopardy.

"The necessity for such an action will provide the providence to ensure integrity and sovereignty of the country. Possession of a document classified under OSA (Official Secrets Act 1972) warrants investigation by the police," he said in a statement.

Salleh said that upon identification, the individual perpetrators and organisation must be brought to the courts.

"The government, from time to time, classifies certain documents under the OSA. The Act in itself is designed to provide national security," he said in a statement.

Malaysiakini yesterday reported that the London-based Sarawak Report published some of the contents of the AG's report on 1MDB, the state investment fund.
