A total of 2,004 motorists with outstanding traffic summonses and warrants of arrest were nabbed during 'Ops Warta' carried out nationwide from Sept 25 until Monday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said they were part of the 51,114 people inspected during the period.
"The highest number of arrests was in Johor at 760 people, followed by Sabah (306), Selangor (167), Perak (160) and Kedah (23)," he told reporters after attending a Conference of Commissioners of Police, Police Chiefs, Commanders and Commandants at the Royal Malaysian Police college here Monday.
He said the police would enforce the law more stringently, especially in ensuring that the 1.7 million outstanding summonses issued to traffic offenders were settled.
"We issue warrants of arrest against those issued with more than four summonses, and have failed to settle them," he added.
Khalid said to date, only 30 per cent of the traffic offenders had settled their outstanding summonses.
In conjunction with the conference, Khalid also launched a mobile, multi-purpose exhibition bus for the newly-minted police crime prevention and eradication department.
The 12-metre long vehicle, costing RM499,000, is aimed at promoting the success and result in the implementation of the National Key Result Areas
