MYBAIKHATI campaign aims to collect three million devices for those in need - MCMC

KUALA LUMPUR: The MYBAIKHATI campaign under the Strategic Programme to Empower the People and the Economy (PEMERKASA) targets to collect three million used devices within the span of 12 months, said Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Chairman Dr Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek said the initiative which is run by the industry together with MCMC is another layer of assistance to provide the people in need with old but usable devices for them to access the Internet.

"It is a huge target but we hope Malaysians who have old devices that are still usable and may not be using it to donate them to MYBAIKHATI campaign via our participating service providers.

"All these devices will then be assessed and refurbished to good usable condition and brought to places like community Internet centres to be given out to people in need," he said on Bernama TV's The Nation:JENDELA programme today.

Currently, the companies involved in this campaign are Celcom Axiata Bhd, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Maxis Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd and TIME dotCom Bhd.

"We look forward to having more partners who may want to participate in this campaign, and for those who have old phones, notebooks or laptops, please donate them instead of throwing it away," said Fadhlullah.

Meanwhile Fadhlullah said the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) had concluded its second quarter of the phase one on March 31, 2021 and the quarterly report would be made available to the public on April 7.

"For the first quarter of phase one, we have done reasonably well and for the second quarter, all service providers had been working very hard with all the challenges they had to face to meet the target.

"We are now moving onto the third quarter and we hope our progress in this quarter will be more towards providing digital inclusion to all Malaysians," he added.
