Muslims in six states can now perform their zakat fitrah or "personal tithe" online during the holy month of Ramadan this year via MY E.G. Services Bhd (MYEG) platform following the imposition of the Movement Control Order (MCO).
MYEG executive director, Datuk Raja Munir Shah Raja Mustapha said, as the leader in e-government services it was pleased with the participation of these six zakat agencies to enable individuals to perform their zakat fitrah compared to the usual face-to-face method.
Individuals who want to access this service, can go to www.myeg.com.my where they are required to have an account on the MYEG portal and make a zakat payment according to the zakat agency as well as at the fixed rate.
"Payments can be made either through an online banking or credit card method. Alternatively, people can also download the MYEG mobile app on the Google Play Store which is currently available to Android users," he said in a statement today.
The six zakat agencies and zakat fitrah rates set by each agency for the six states involved are as followed: Selangor Tithe Board (fixed zakat fitrah rates are RM7, RM14 and RM21); Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (RM5, RM7); Negeri Sembilan Baitulmal Corporation (RM7): Kedah Zakat Board (RM5, RM7, RM14, RM21): Sabah Islamic Religious Council (RM6 RM7.50) and Sarawak Baitulmal Fund (RM7).
Muslims can pay their zakat fitrah beginning from tomorrow, April 24 until the last night of Ramadan on May 23, 2020. The service is available 24 hours and seven days a week.
For further assistance or information, the public can call MYEG customer service at 03-7801 8888 or email [email protected].
