Najib blasted opposition accusing government of selling national sovereignty to China

The Prime Minister said the opposition's action was seen as trying to deny the success achieved by the government during the visit, which managed to bring investments worth RM144 billion.

"They always want to deny the great success that the government is doing for the benefit of the country's development...since my late father, Tun Razak (Hussein)'s time, there was already cooperation with China," he said.

He said this when speaking at the Pahang Federation of Chinese Associations (GPCP) dinner in conjunction with its 31st anniversary and GPCP and Huazong Association oath-taking ceremony here last night.

The ceremony was also attended by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who is also MCA president, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and China's Ambassador to Malaysia Huang Hui Kang.

He said the accusations were deemded unfair as the large amount of investment benefited the people, including the implementation of the 620-km long East Coast Rail Line (ECRL).

"They are saying we are selling the country's sovereignty to China, but before when the Look East Policy (introduced by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and Japanese investment in Malaysia, this issue was not raised.

"It's actually the same as the fundamental purpose of government is to create jobs and develop the economy and, on the basis of justice, it should be beneficial to all," he said.

Hence, he urged all non-governmental organisations such as GPCP to continue giving credence to the government to continue governing the country because the current government had proven to govern the country well and not just mere empty talk.

Najib said the close relationship between the government and non governmental organisations of the Chinese community was also capable of enhancing closer ties between the two parties and further develop this community in the country.

As Prime Minister, he would ensure that the government under Barisan Nasional (BN) will be a country that continued to hold the principles of moderation, fair, progressive and inclusive.
