Najib: We're considering Anwar's 'national consensus' proposal

Barisan Nasional (BN) government is considering the proposal by PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim towards a ‘national consensus’.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, that the matter would be discussed with his Cabinet.

“Let me negotiate this with the Cabinet ministers later and whatever the outcome, what’s important is that our country is peaceful and we can ensure the prosperity of the rakyat,” said Najib during the launch of a book entitled "Maps of Malaya and Borneo: The Collection of Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Datuk Richard Curtis", on Monday night.

"This is what we want to focus on and regardless of our political ideology or understanding, what is crucial is that we follow rule of law, safeguard racial and religious sensitivities and respect the rights of each other in line with the Fedederal Constitution, the federal and state laws,” he said.

Najib was commenting on Anwar's offer on Sunday of initiating a bi-partisan dialogue with BN on current issues.

Prior to this, UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had welcomed Anwar’s proposal, with Anwar responding on Monday morning that he would write to the former.

Meanwhile, responding to the kalimah Allah issue which was also spoken by Anwar during his Sunday speech, the Prime Minister said that the government’s position on the matter was clear.
