Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor Monday night attended a tahlil and reading of the Yasin for the late Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia's second prime minister, at Ar-Rahah Mosque in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur.

Among those present were Najib's mother Tun Rahah Mohammad Noah, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

The session, organised by Felda, was led by mosque chief, Ustaz Muhammad Akmal Abdul Aziz and attended by about 500 people.

In his short speech to the congregation after Isyak prayer, Najib said Felda was very close to his late father Tun Abdul Razak's heart.

He said his father earnestly wanted to change the lot of the people for the better and eradicate poverty, especially among the Malays, through the Felda scheme.

"The Felda scheme is the most successful land development scheme and now we can be proud of Felda which has entered a new era as it has become a world-renowned corporate body."

Najib said Felda's struggle began in 1956 and was still relevant today as it continued to develop.

The late Abdul Razak died from leukaemia on Jan 14, 1976 in London at the age of 53.

Najib also said that Lembah Pantai must be recaptured from the opposition in the coming 13th general election.
