NETIZENS have called for justice following a video which showed an elderly woman beating a child at least 30 times went viral on Monday.
As reported by Bernama, the child had allegedly spilled some food and the woman ordered her to leave the table and the woman beat her repeatedly soon after.
The elderly woman's unexplainable rage was recorded in the 50-second video.
“Luckily the child did not die. At least the woman should be punished before any other bad things happen,” said a Facebook user known as Mohd Taufik.
The remand application was made under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to enable an investigation to be conducted under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.
The Act provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both, upon conviction.
“Stay in the jail for 10 years,” said a distraught Norzahila Zakariah on Twitter.
A user, Raudah CJ said, “Go to jail and get the fine so that she knows.”
It is understood that the video was recorded by the woman’s friend.
The recording of the incident drew mix reactions.
“Perhaps the friend wanted to get back at the aunty,” said Vanitha Anne Cinnasamy.
Another Netizen questioned why the woman who recorded the video didn’t do anything.
“Why didn’t she help the poor kid and instead choose to record the incident,” said Syidah on Facebook.
Magistrate's court assistant registrar Hairol Azhar Mohd Ishak allowed a request from police to remand the 62-year-old woman for a week from Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Azlin Sadari said the woman was the girl's grand-aunt, and the incident allegedly occurred in September last year.
