Nine anglers including seven Hong Kong nationals, were rescued after their boat, lashed by large waves, capsized in the waters in front of Sutera Harbour, here, this evening.
Kota Kinabalu City police chief ACP M.Chandra said all the victims, aged between 32 and 60 years, were rescued by the Marine police.
"Two of the victims were injured on the stomach and legs. However, both are in stable condition, while the other victims escaped unhurt," he said in a statement.
He said, when the incident occurred at about 4 pm, the victims were on their way back to the jetty in Sembulan after fishing, before big waves followed by strong winds lashed their boat and the skipper lost control causing the boat to capsize.
"The victims clung to the back of the overturned boat for about 20 minutes before the Marine police patrolling the area spotted them," he said.
Chandra said the victims were taken to the Marine Police Base in Kota Kinabalu and treated by an ambulance crew who had arrived at 5.20pm.
