Noh Omar to take Selangor water issue to Parliament

Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said the lackadaisical attitude in tackling the issue by the State government has affected thousands consumers in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sepang and Petaling.

He also said that the state government must stop pointing fingers at others.

“The Selangor water distribution is managed by the State government, the higher management of Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has no experience in water management, the experienced people in the company have been asked to leave or changed,” said Noh after the water distribution ceremony organised by Semenyih State Legislative Assembly here today.

“When an officer is changed, it becomes chaotic. Secondly, the delay in information dissemination. The rakyat is left in the dark. If it was the previous management of Syabas, the people would have been notified earlier. Even the action was delayed, there are 75 tankers available but only 50 are working.

“And why is the Selangor government not serious about river management, if there were stalls for people to earn their living got demolished, the association is not doing anything, love your river, environment but if State government that has the power to take action is not doing anything, then what is the point,” he said.

Noh, who is also Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman added that he will see that the water disruption issue to be discussed at national level in Parliament.

He said that the move was the only way to settle the ongoing issue faced by the people in Selangor for the last few years.

“I will bring the issue to the Cabinet. State problems such as the high tide issue had been discussed and solved in Parliament so, I'm convinced that the Federal government should be able to solve the water issue in Selangor,” said Noh.
