Polis detained the mother of Nursyafiqah Abdullah, 2, who was found dead in an empty house at Taman Perumahan Permint Seberang Paka, Terengganu on Tuesday, for investigation.
Terengganu CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the mother’s boyfriend is the main suspect in the case and was picked-up at about 1.30pm Tuesday in Kuala Paka, Dungun.
Apart from him, police also detained two other suspects, both aged 25 and Nursyafiqah’s mother, Rabiatul Adawiyah Mamat, for investigation.
The two other suspects were nabbed between 10.30pm Tuesday and 1.30am Wednesday.
Manoharan said Nursyafiqah’s body was only found after the boyfriend was picked-up.
At a press conference, Manoharan said when the 25-year-old boyfriend was detained, he was high on drugs.
Police investigation found that the boyfriend was the last person to have been with Nursyafiqah before she was found dead.
According to him, Rabiatul had allowed her boyfriend to take her daughter out at about 11am, Friday.
But he later told her that Nursyafiqah had gone missing and was believed to have forced Rabiatul to lodge a missing person report.
Nursyafiqah father is currently in prison for drug offences.
Manoharan said since all the suspects were drug users and pushers, the police are still investigating if Rabiatul was involved in her daughter’s death.
He said police have also seized the vehicle used by the suspect to ferry Nursyafiqah before she was found murdered.
The body of Nursyafiqah was found by a 31-year old security guard, half-naked with traces of blood and in a state of decomposition.
The security guard had detected a stench and noticing that the door of the empty house was ajar, went in to inspect.
The remains had been sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for post mortem and DNA profiling.
Nursyafiqah was reported missing since the 17 January. Her mother Rabiatul said she left her daughter in an unlocked car in front of a restaurant in Kuala Paka whilst going to see a friend at 7.30pm.
When she came back to her car, she found her daughter gone and suspects kidnapping.
In a police report, Rabiatul has admitted to receiving death threats from a debt collector.
