In a statement today, the ministry said out of this number, 9,155 were placed in primary schools whereas 9,637 were posted to secondary schools.
"The MOE always works closely with the Education Service Commission (SPP) to ensure the teacher shortage issue in schools nationwide can be overcome," said the statement.
"The synergy of strategic cooperation between the two parties is quite significant in ensuring that teacher projections meet current needs."
According to the MOE, the recruitment of 6,315 non-education graduates as Education Service Officers (PPP) grade DG41 under the Contract of Service (COS) as announced by the SPP last week is a reflection of the government's continued commitment to ensure that the projected needs and placement of teachers in schools are met.
The ministry said the increase in the number of teachers is a major commitment of the MADANI government in strengthening the education reform agenda and upholding the quality of the country's education.
Last Thursday (Feb 8), SPP said that a total of 6,315 candidates were successful in the interview process and were appointed as PPP grade DG41 on a contractual basis to fill part of the requirements for the positions in all MOE schools throughout the country.
All candidates who are graduates of non-education universities in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak were interviewed from Sept to Nov 9, last year.
