Parliament sitting expected to be 'hotter than usual'

The third meeting of the third session of the 13th Parliament, which begins tomorrow is expected to be hotter than usual.

The heat was not solely because of the tabling of Budget 2016 this Friday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak but also a number of current issues arising in the country's political arena.

This include the status of the probe into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which is expected to be led by Rompin MP Datuk Hasan Arifin.

Hasan was chosen to replace Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who was appointed as Deputy Home Minister in the Cabinet reshuffle last July.

In addition, the final report of redelineation of the Sarawak state elections are expected to be presented in this sitting as well.

Minister in the Prime Minister Nancy Shukri was reportedly said that the presentation of the report will be carried out in order to legitimise the creation of the new 11 state seats.

Therefore, there will be 82 seats to be contested at the 11th Sarawak state elections expected to be called next year.

Meanwhile, five of the Bills are scheduled to be read for the first time.

The Bills are Supply Bill 2016, Employees Provident Fund (Amendment) Act 2015, Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (Amendment) Act 2015, Companies Act 2015 and Interest Scheme 2015.

Four other bills were also brought from last meeting are also listed to be read for the second time. The Bills are Evidence (Amendment) Act 2015, Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act 2015, Bill 2015, Allied Health Professions Bill and the Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act 2014.
