The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia will review the rate of payment for producers of programmes aired by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM), said its minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said this was in line with the increase in costs that had to be borne by the programme producers in making a programme.
"I was made to understand that the rate of payment they (programme producers) receive is still at the old rate, thus it is now time that a study on an increase be carried out according to current needs," he told reporters after attending the TV Malaysia Golden Jubilee Concert at the Auditorium Perdana, Angkasapuri Saturday night.
He said the review would also provide RTM with a good beginning for programme producers to move into a wider market.
He said the review was also aimed at creating a new standard for the broadcasting world in giving the best quality to its audience.
Meanwhile, the concert on Saturday night was held to give special recognition to the RTM staff who were among the earliest group to pioneer the broadcasting field in TV Malaysia.
The two-hour concert was participated by new and old artistes created through RTM produced programmes.
Also present was Broadcasting Director-General Datuk Norhyati Ismail.
