The DAP-led Penang government never applied for federal government funds to finance the implementation of the Penang Transportation Master Plan (PTMP), said State Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

The state government instead decided to sign an agreement of understanding to borrow from Exim Bank of China, he said to reporters at the public display of the Penang South Reclamation (PSR) project at Komtar here today.

Chow said the state government went ahead and submitted the request for proposal (RFP) to developers who succeeded in the bid for the PTMP projects.

He also said that the public responded well to the public display of the PSR environment impact assessment (EIA) report.

The RM27-billion PTMP project comprises a 6.5-km undersea tunnel, three highways and a Penang sky cab.
