Penang PAS delegate raises concern over land development in Malay areas
Debating the president's policy speech during PAS Muktamar today, Yaakob Omar claimed that in 2010, about 28 per cent of Malays owned land, but now it was reduced to only 20.4 per cent.
A Penang PAS delegate has expressed concern over the drastic land development in the state, especially in Malay areas.
Tanjong delegate Yaakob Omar said the action had caused a decline in land ownership among the Malays in Penang.
Debating the president's policy speech during PAS Muktamar here today, he claimed that in 2010, about 28 per cent of Malays owned land, but now it was reduced to only 20.4 per cent.
Yaakob said among the factors which contributed to the reduction was that the Malays lacked knowledge about land ownership.
In an effort to preserve Malay land, he suggested that the government establish Malay reserved land.
"We urge government agencies and non-government bodies to conduct studies on the matter as soon as possible."
He also expressed concern over the environmental problems in the state.
"As we enter Penang via the Penang Bridge, we can see the bare hills. Next to Balik Pulau is a holiday spot called Titi Kerawang.
"The DAP government has done some kind of magic as the waterfall has vanished. Once upon a time, it was a popular tourist destination."
He was also worried over the Penang Transportation Master Plan that could affect the income of fishermen, mostly comprising the Malays.
