Twelve cows donated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak were slaughtered in the compound of his residence in Seri Kenangan here today in conjunction with Aidiladha.
Pekan UMNO secretary Datuk Ahmad Azmey Abu Talib, the cows were part of the 458 cattle donated by the prime minister, who is also Pekan Member of Parliament and Pekan UMNO chief, for the 'ibadah korban' (ritual of sacrifice) activities in the parliamentary constituency.
"This year's Aidiladha celebration is indeed merrier as we (Pekan UMNO) received 12 cows from the prime minister, compared to only eight last year," he told reporters after the sacrificial ritual organised by Pekan UMNO.
Also present were deputy Pekan UMNO chief Datuk Abu Bakar Harun and vice-chief Datuk Khairuddin Mahmud.
Approximately 200 Pekan UMNO leaders and members, as well as local residents were involved in the activity, from slaughtering of the cows right to distributing the meat to the recipients.
Apart from Pekan UMNO, a total of 60 mosques, 166 suraus, 33 government agencies and non-governmental organisations, also received the cattle donated by the prime minister for the "ibadah korban" which began yesterday.
In KOTA TINGGI, 46 cows were slaughtered on the second day of Aidiladha through the "Korban Perdana Parlimen Tenggara" programme in Felda Linggiu today.
The cattle were donated by Tenggara Member of Parliament Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
The meat were later distributed to 16 villagers in Felda Tenggara, including Orang Asli settlements and Hardcore Poor Housing Project (PPRT) areas, fire and rescue stations.
