Police increase security presence at Gate 2, Istana Negara

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have increased the security level at Istana Negara here this afternoon to ensure public order and to curb any incidents of provocation.

Brickfields district police chief ACP Amihizam Abdul Shukor said a police team has been assigned there to control the situation and prevent the occurrence of any untoward incidents.

"Istana Negara is a symbol of our national sovereignty so we will protect it from any incident. So far, the situation is still under control," he told Bernama today.

Meanwhile, checks by Bernama showed that dozens of supporters of political parties had gathered in front of Gate 2 of Istana Negara since 4 pm after the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong summoned both Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for an audience at 4.30 pm today.

Four police Light Strike Force team vehicles that had been assigned there to ensure public order were also spotted in the vicinity.
