Police question Al Jazeera reporter over documentary

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had never neglected their responsibility in investigating illegal activities, including smuggling of babies.

"The local female reporter extended good cooperation and the police understand why she made the documentary ... if necessary we will call up more individuals to help the investigation.

"I deny again that Malaysia is a hub for baby-selling activities ... we will never allow such activities," he said to reporters here today.

Khalid was asked to comment on the statement by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim yesterday that the police had summoned the production crew of Al Jazeera to verify the authenticity of its report.

He said the police would cooperate with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to determine whether any individuals were involved in the activity.

On another matter, Khalid said the police would investigate a report that Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah received a letter containing a death threat and a bullet.

It was reported in the media yesterday that Maria Chin received the letter dated Nov 18 at her house in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, when she was under detention by the police.
