Police stamp mark through social media

Social media is now a norm among society and it is now an important element for the police to maintain peace and stability in the country.

Such was the sentiments of Inspector-General of Police Secretariat (Corporate Communications) deputy head ACP Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf during a discussion about the police and ways to get closer with the community through social media on Agenda Awani on Monday.

“In order to provide the latest information immediately to the public, social media such as Facebook and Twitter play an important role thus changing the landscape of presenting information to the people to suit the new generation,” said Ramli.

Also present on the show was Inspector-General of Police Secretariat (Corporate Communications) Head of Portal and Social Media DSP Lai Lee Ching.

“Moderation on social media is important to avoid racist and threatening statements in order to maintain the harmonisation between the different races and religions in Malaysia,” Lai added.

According to Lai, the police has plans to improve its system to benefit the public.

Apart from that, the police will work with various agencies to fight cyber crimes.
