Political funds going into PM's account not a crime - Khairy

He said the Malaysian law does not prohibit any political paries from accepting donations, where in this case Najib had accepted the contribution on behalf of UMNO.

According to Khairy, contributions from doners to any political parties or politicians are considered a 'routine'.

"It can be transferred to a political party's account or personal account as long as the personal account is entrusted to the party. Therefore, it does not prohibit any individual from accepting it.

"Let's see what will happen to the Special Task Force, despite the fact MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) said he still there are some aspects but it is clear that the funds that went to the Prime Minister's account is a political contribution," he told reporters after the launching of NBL Asia Sdn Bhd, today.

Yesterday, the MACC confirmed that the funds amounting to RM2.6 billion supposedly deposited into Najib’s personal account, were campaign donations and not funds from state investment company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

In a statement issued last Monday, the MACC said this was based on its investigation into SRC International.

It said the investigation report into the alleged transfer of funds had been referred to the Attorney-General.
