Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob (pic) has expressed regret that a handful of people linked the major flood which struck Pahang to the state being ruled by the Barisan Nasional (BN).

Those involved in such allegations were virtually denying fate and Allah's provision, he said.

"There are some who have claimed that the people were punished by flood for allowing BN to rule (the state).

"Regardless of whether the BN and opposition was in power, the flood would have still occurred, if it was meant to be," he said at a flood aid presentation and volunteer appreciation ceremony at the Abu Bakar Mosque in Temerloh here Friday.

At the event, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak handed over the assistance to the flood victims.

"The people should not politicise the flood disaster. Instead, they should go to the ground to help floods victims.

"(At the same time) They should not trumpet their deeds in the social media when they bring a few bags of rice, once in a while," he said when referring to the attitude of some members of the opposition in the state.

Adnan said the state government was providing various assistance to flood victims in Pahang, involving more than 61,000 people from 13,000 families who were earlier housed in evacuation centres.

He said the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah handed over a RM500,000 contribution to purchase necessities for the flood victims.
