Prime Minister launches book on 'Implementation Plan of the Malaysian Syariah Index 2016-2018'

He said improvements to the policy, programme and eight major areas of the index were based on the assessment or overall score of the Malaysian Syariah Index which was recorded last year.

The Islamic Development Department (Jakim) as the coordinating agency of the index implementation, he said, had outlined three main approaches that would have to be implemented before the tabling of the Malaysian Syariah Index report for 2017 next year.

"I am overwhelmed that in terms of explanation, I see efforts which have and being carried out by Jakim to explain the meaning of the principle of Maqasid Syariah were a success.

"That is why, we have to determine the follow-up step or action to ensure in one year, three main steps, besides the explaining and evaluating, we also continue to carry out improvement to the policy and programmes implemented by the government," he said at the book launch at Seri Perdana here.

Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Seri Dr Ali Hamsa and Jakim Director-General Tan Sri Othman Mustapha.
