Probe on baby-for-sale syndicate completed
The police have completed the investigation papers on eight people, including a doctor and a National Registration Department officer, in connection with a baby-for-sale syndicate.
State police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the investigation papers would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office tomorrow.
He was speaking to reporters after a visit to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Jawi here today. Abdul Rahim said, the police had so far, detained 36 people, including a couple in their 50's, in Bukit Mertajam, where a three-year-old girl was rescued during the arrest on Monday.
This brings the number of children rescued to 10.
Five of those arrested were charged at the Butterworth Sessions Court on Jan 25, while the 10 children were placed under the custody of the state welfare department.
