The police investigation into the unregistered Voluntary Patrol Team (PPS) set up by the Penang government will take some time, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
This was due to the large number of members in the entity, he told reporters after opening the 35th biennial delegates meeting of the Police Administrative and Civilian Staff Union in Kota Baharu.
The PPS reportedly has about 10,000 members.
The police had arrested 156 members of the PPS, including its chairman Phee Boon Poh who is chairman of the State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee, for having ignored a reminder not to engage in activities as an unregistered body.
