Release of treated water has increased but rationing on as usual - SYABAS

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) said the release of treated water from Sungai Selangor has been increased following rainfall over the past two days.
Assistant general manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Priscilla Alfred said despite the increase, the rationing will continue to ensure that water supply can be channeled to some of the affected areas.
"The supply of water is a temporary measure and can be stopped at any time if the water level in the river drops. Users in the affected areas are urged to use water wisely," she said in a statement on Friday.
The water rationing plan involves 7.03 million users in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya with implementation of the fourth stage starting on Friday.
"The fourth stage involves 633 more areas on top of third stage in Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang which affected 626,233 homes."
First stage rationing which began on February 27 was still on although the Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants had begun operation on March 30.
Alfred said the source of raw water from Sungai Langat was still exposed to the risk of ammonia pollution in the absence of rainfall in the area.
Syabas had made careful planning to implement the rationing and to improve it from time to time based on experience and the actual situation.
It deployed manpower of 649 to operate 850 valves of various sizes that need to be closed and opened at any given time.
