School principal charged with abuse of power
Rozilah allowed bail at RM5,000 with one surety for each charge and set Dec 2 for case mention.
A secondary school principal was charged in the Sessions Court here Thursday on three counts of abuse of power involving the supply of goods for school activities worth RM6,591.65.
Norliza Mat Radzi, 48, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges after they were read out before Judge Rozilah Salleh.
The principal was charged with using her position as a school principal to appoint Orean Collection, in which she had an interest as the owner of the company, to supply teaching aid worth RM2,091.65.
Norliza was also alleged to have used her position to appoint Orean Collection to supply small towels worth RM500 as well as five hampers, set of files, stationery and medals worth RM4,000 for the school programmes.
The offences were alleged to have been committed at a school in Port Klang, here between Feb 12 and April 13.
Norliza was charged under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Rozilah allowed bail at RM5,000 with one surety for each charge and set Dec 2 for case mention.
Norliza was also ordered to surrender her passport to the court until the case was solved.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutors from the MACC Hazirah Azeman and Mohammed Heikal Ismail while the accused was represented by Noramalina Mohamad. -- BERNAMA
