School principal ordered to enter defence for abusing position

Sessions Court judge Rozilah Salleh in her ruling said the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against Norliza Mat Radzi, 49.

The court set May 8 for trial.

During the hearing which commenced in February this year, deputy public prosecutor Hazirah Azeman from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) called 13 witnesses.

On Nov 3, 2016, the accused claimed trial to choosing her company, Orean Collection, to be the supplier for teaching aids to the school, worth RM2,091.65.

She also claimed trial to committing a similar offence involving hand towels for the school, worth RM500.

She further denied on the third charge of committing a similar offence involving hamper packages, file sets, stationeries and medals for the school's activities amounting to RM4,000.

She is accused of committing the offences at the school in Port Klang near here, between Feb 12 and April 13, 2016.

The charges are framed under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum 20 years imprisonment and a fine of five times the value of the sum involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Norliza's counsel Mohd Tajuddin Abd Razak told the court that the defence would be calling three witnesses including the accused who had opted to give evidence on oath from the dock.
