Sedition: Fine reduced, son says Karpal Singh would still be Bukit Gelugor MP
Karpal was found guilty of sedition against Sultan Perak in 2014 - File pix
The Court of Appeal disallowed Karpal Singh’s appeal against his conviction for sedition on Monday, two years after his demise.
His appeal against his sentence of RM4,000, however, was allowed and reduced to RM1,800.
This means that he would not be disqualified as member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor if he was alive and that his widow is entitled to his pension.
The decision was also shared by his son, Ramkarpal Singh on Facebook:
Karpal was found guilty of sedition and fined RM4,000 by the High Court on 21 Feb 2014 for questioning the Sultan of Perak's action in removing Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as the mentri besar of Perak in 2009.
