The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah wants the restructuring agreement for water industry services in the state to be finalised immediately according to the main agreement signed by the state and federal governments on Sept 12, 2014.

He also wanted the process to be carried out based on the spirit and terms of the main agreement and not to be politicised by any party so that it could be properly implemented to fulfill the development needs and life of the people of Selangor.

Sultan Sharafuddin said the Selangor government must always be prepared with the best measures to ensure there was adequate clean water for domestic and industrial needs.

"I am convinced that 'face to face meetings and discussions' can resolve this matter fairly to ensure more efficient and people-friendly services for treated water for all the people of Selangor.

"I also want my menteri besar to continue with the firm attitude in defending the sovereignty of the Selangor state and interest of the people," he said when delivering the royal address at the opening of the Third Term of the 13th Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.

Meanwhile, Sultan Sharafuddin wanted efforts to replace the Malay Reserve land which had been cancelled due to the development projects in the state to be implemented immediately and the form of replacements should be 'of equivalent condition' and had competitive market value.

"Bear in mind that the rights of the Malays and Bumiputera must be protected including the acreage of the Malay Reserve land in line with Article 89, Chapter 3, of the Federal Constitution," the Sultan said.'

He also emphasised on the management of the environment and ecosystem through the conservation of permanent forest reserves and the planting of trees in Selangor that must be given attention following the floods that struck the east coast last December.

The Sultan wanted every Selangor citizen, regardless of race, religion and culture, to feel that their rights were protected through the provisions of the Federal Constitution based on the fact that the people were the most important assets in driving development and attracting investors.

He said the rapid economic growth of Selangor would attract more people to move to the state and the population density was projected to reach nine million people by the year 2035.

As such, he said the demand for affordable homes within the next three years and the need to provide public transportation was perceived to be more challenging.
