A senior citizen was charged at the Alor Setar Sessions Court for deliberately causing serious injury on a teenager using a substance believed to be acid, last month.
The accused, Ahmad Taib, 65, however pleaded not guilty and claimed trial soon after the charge was read by a court interpreter in front of Judge Rusita Md Lazim.
According to the charge sheet, he was charged for deliberately causing harm on Khairul Izzat Mohd Zaki, 22, by splashing acid towards the teenager which caused injury to victim’s neck, body and hands which could cause permanent injuries.
The accused was charged of committing the offence at around 5.15pm in front of an unnumbered house in Kampung Baru, Kuala Kedah on July 25.
He was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping.
The court had allowed the victim to be released on a RM5,000 bail with one surety. The case will be re-mentioned on September 13.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ayu Rohaiza Khazali while the accused was represented by Lim Wei Yong.
On 25 July, Khairul Izzat Mohamed Zaki, 22, suffered 30 percent burns to his face, neck, hands and stomach, while his friend Mohd Sufri Zulkifli, 19, was wounded in the neck after being splashed by acid by the accused during a row over the former's alleged failure to pay outstanding rent for six months.
