Senior citizen who tried to hide quarantine wristband arrested by police

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said acting on information from the public who saw a man wearing a wristband from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) lingering in a shop lot in the area, the police conducted an inspection.

"Upon arrival at the location, the police arrested a 63-year-old man after it was found that he was trying to hide the MOH wristband.

"Checks found that the man came from Sabah for business, and the result of his COVID-19 screening test was negative," he said in a statement here, on Monday.

However, said Nik Ezanee, the man was instructed to undergo quarantine at home from September 28 to October 11.

He said the police would apply for a remand order against the man at the Petaling Jaya Court on Tuesday.

The case, he said, was being investigated under Section 15 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 which is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine or both.

Meanwhile, Nik Azanee also warned individuals who were subject to quarantine orders to comply with the instructions set by the MOH.

"We will take stern action against any individual who fails to comply or cooperate," he said.

In another incident, a man with a pink wristband was arrested while eating at a restaurant in Bandar Tasik Puteri Rawang on Saturday night.
