Shahrir not contesting MT post, concentrating on parliamentary constituency
Johor Baharu Umno division head Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad will not contest for a seat in the Umno Supreme Council (MT) in the party election in October. The Member of Parliament for Johor Baharu said the decision was taken to enable him to concentrate on his parliamentary constituency. "I have no ambition to contest for a seat in the MT (Supreme Council) this time because I am busy here (in Johor Baharu). I feel there are more leaders at the federal level who have the integrity and ideas to lead national politics," he said. He said this at the Aidilfitri Open House for the Johor Baharu parliamentary constituency at the Johor Baharu City Council's Indoor Stadium, here today. At the same time, he advised those contesting in the party election against being vengeful regardless whether they emerge as victor or loser in the MT election. "In a contest, basically, we do not evaluate our own self but the others are the ones who will evaluate us," he added.
