Efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country continues to show good results, as zero local transmission was recorded in the last 24 hours for the second day in a row.

No new deaths were recorded and the death toll remains at 121 for the 24th consecutive day.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said only six new cases were reported today, all of which were imported cases, comprising five locals and one non-citizen who was a permanent resident.

“This brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases in Malaysia to 8,683, while the number of active cases is 63,” he said in a statement today.

He said 13 cases had recovered and were allowed to be discharged today, bringing the cumulative number of recovered cases to 8,499 or 97.9 per cent of the overall number of cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said only two cases were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with one case requiring a ventilator to breathe.

Meanwhile, he also announced the end of a Covid-19 cluster involving a cleaning company based in Kuala Lumpur, today.

He said 33 people from this cluster, comprising 16 locals and 17 non-citizens have been screened.

Of this number, four were found to be Covid-19 positive, including three employees and a close-contact case, all of whom are Indonesians.

For the record, 15 clusters have been detected at workplaces, and the Kuala Lumpur Cleaning Company Cluster is the 11th cluster to be declared to have ended.

According to Dr Hisham, only four workplace clusters were still active, namely the Kuala Lumpur 2 construction site, the Pedas, cleaning company and Kuching construction site cluster.

To date, 10,362 people have been screened under the clusters. Of this number, 4,242 (40.9 per cent) are Malaysians, while 6,120 (45.3 per cent) are foreigners.

“The total number of positive cases detected in these clusters is 722 cases involving 122 (16.9 per cent) Malaysians, and 600 (83.1 per cent) foreign nationals,” he said.

“The infected foreign nationals comprised 234 Bangladeshis, Nepalese (212), Indonesians (109), Myanmar nationals (36), Indians (7), and one Cambodian and a Vietnamese respectively.

Dr Noor Hisham reminded employers to monitor and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) among workers, thereby preventing the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
