The new COVID-19 positive cases remain in a single digit with six new cases recorded today.
The total number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity stands at 244 cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, the addition of new cases brings the cumulative number of positive cases in Malaysia to 8,596, no death was recorded and the death toll remained at 121 cases.
“Of the six new cases reported, two are imported cases infected overseas, involving a Malaysian citizen and one a foreign permanent resident in Malaysia,” he told a daily media conference on COVID-19 development here today.
Dr Noor Hisham said, 45 Covid-19 patients who had recovered were discharged today, bringing the cumulative number of fully recovered cases who have been discharged from the wards to 8,231 cases or 95.8 per cent, of the total number of cases.
Meanwhile, three new clusters were detected, namely the Hulu Langat Condominium Cluster; Bukit Bintang Cluster; and Kuching Construction Site Cluster.
For the Bukit Bintang Cluster, until now 10 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported involving nine Bangladeshis and one Malaysian.
The index case for this cluster (patient number 8498) was a foreign man, who underwent COVID-19 screening to return to work and tested positive on June 15.
“Investigations and screenings on all close contacts have been conducted. So far, 274 close contacts have been screened, comprising 203 foreigners and 71 Malaysians.
“Seven of the 10 positive cases are housemates of the index case,” he said.
Preventive measures such as cleaning and disinfection process have been carried out in their residential area and other related locations and the source of infection for the cluster is still under investigation.
For the Hulu Langat Condominium Cluster, the index case (patient no. 8368) was a tahfiz school student who tested positive for COVID-19 on June 8.
Dr Noor Hisham said active case detection had been carried out and two more positive cases had been detected in the cluster believed to have stemmed from visits.
Forty close contacts of the index case have been identified and screened, comprising 26 foreigners and 14 Malaysians, he said.
The Kuching Construction Site Cluster (Sarawak), had three confirmed Covid-19 cases with the third case (patient no. 8591) testing positive when undergoing screening at a private clinic.
“He was the chief supervisor of two Indonesian workers who tested positive for Covid-19 on June 16 during a screening at the workplace.
“Subsequent investigations and screening of close contacts including construction workers and their family members was carried out and so far 426 close contacts have been identified. The cause of the infection is still under investigation,” he said.
He added that all three clusters were still under control and that it was not necessary to impose the Enhanced Movement Control Order or the Movement Control Order for now.
