Slopes at risk of collapse continuously monitored

The Public Works Department (PWD) will continously monitor slopes at risk of collapse along the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Hihglands road, near here.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said several areas at risk had been identified, however, the approach taken at each site would be different.

She said among the measures to be taken were building embankments or rock sheds at landslide-prone locations to ensure the safety of road users.

Rosnah was speaking to reporters after the flagging-off for the rock shed at Section 46 of Laluan Persekutuan 185, Jalan Simpang Pulai, Perak-Blue Valley.

Construction of the 344m-long rock shed over the two-lane dual carriageway began on Jan 29, 2014 and will be completed by Feb 8, this year.

Rosnah said the project was 99 per cent complete, with only works to install the lighting, and sign and warning boards left.

She said the protective structure was built as the slope location in Section 44 was problematic, and there were 44 landslide scars along the road at the location.

This is the second rock shed built in Malaysia, after the one in Section 188, spanning 88 metres along the Gerik-Kota Bharu road.

Meanwhile, Rosnah urged owners of private land at risk of landslide to refrain from carrying out any detrimental activities for the safety of road users. - BERNAMA
