The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) which was left out in the cold in the post general election cabinet is hopeful that Prime Minister Najib Razak will give its leaders posts at federal level.
Party president William Mawan Ikom said the party had complete faith in Najib who is also the Barisan National (BN) chairman.
“Although SPDP is not represented at federal level, we believe the prime minister will give federal posts to several SPDP members of parliament,” he said at Gawai Dayak celebration at George Longhouse, Nanga Nangsang here on Sunday.
Najib and his wife, Rosmah Mansor had attended the celebrations.
In the 13th general election (GE13), SPDP won all four parliamentary seats it contested in Sarawak.
SPDP was confident that Najib and Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud are concerned about the party, the Dayaks and the other races.
Mawan who is also Sarawak Social Development Minister said SPDP was fully committed to the Bn spirit and would remain loyal to Najib and Taib’s leadership.
He thanked Najib for implementating several rural projects including supply of clean water from Gerugu to Pakan and its vicinity.
The federal government also announced contribution of RM2 million to the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) of which Mawan is the president.
Earlier in Julau, Najib assured Sarawkians that the federal government would intensify rural development in Sarawak.
According to him, the BN’s massive victory in Sarawak in the 13th General Election last month proved the people in the state wanted the government to continue its efforts on rural transformation.
“The rural development agenda in Sarawak will be further intensified so that areas that are still left behind can be developed.
“The Barisan Nasional government is a government that keeps its promises on rural development no matter whether the area is under the SPDP, PBB or PRS (BN component parties in Sarawak),” he said.
