SRC, RM2.6 bil: MACC wants to review AG's order

In a statement today, MACC said this decision was made following a meeting held today to discuss AG Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali’s orders.

The PPO comprised of Tan Sri Dr Hamid Bugo as the chairman, Tan Sri Jawhar Hassan, Datuk Zamani Abdul Ghani, Datuk Azizah Arshad, Datuk Wan Abdul Wahab Abdullah, Profesor Dr. Normah Omar, Dr Sundramoorthy M. Pathmanathan and Lim Chee Wee.

Yesterday, Mohamed Apandi announced that no criminal offence has been committed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in regards to the RM2.6 billion transferred into his account and SRC International Sdn Bhd.

He said the findings of the investigation found insufficient evidence to implicate him.

“I am satisfied. Based on statements by the witnesses and supporting documents produced by MACC to me it shows that the fund channelled into the prime minister’s account amounting to USD681 million (RM2.08 billion) is a personal contribution to the PM from the royal family of Saudi Arabia and was given to him without any compensation.

MACC on Dec 31 submitted two investigation papers regarding the SRC International case and another paper in regards to the fund involving the RM2.6 billion fund.

SRC International is a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad. It was placed under the Finance Ministry in 2012.

Following the AG's announcement, Najib in a Facebook posting urged Malaysians to unite and move on.

The prime minister said the issue had been an unnecessary distraction for the country.

"I'll now redouble my focus on the key issues that matter to Malaysia, especially combating the threat of terrorism and strengthening the economy in the face of global headwinds," he wrote.
