Students wearing crucifix in school: Principal apologises
Allegations about the principal having scolded Christian students in the school for wearing the crucifix and having forced them to remove them had gone viral on social media.
The principal of a school here has apologised for his "poor choice of words" in reprimanding students for wearing what he felt were large crucifixes and not wearing them properly.
Serian District Education Officer Yunus Apok said he had reprimanded the principal for the words he had used on the students.
"I am satisfied with the principal's explanation and his side of the story," he said, adding that he had met the principal following complaints from the parents of the students.
"Let it be known that he does not forbid anyone from wearing the cross (crucifix), but it must be worn properly,” he said.
Yunus said it was hoped that the explanation would satisfy all concerned.
