Teachers should not be burdened with administrative work - Ahmad Zahid

He noted the move was crucial to empower teachers in producing students who were not only educated, but also had high moral values.

Ahmad Zahid said the matter should be prioritised to enable the country to achieve developed nation status as required by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) that 70 per cent of the people in this country should have at least a diploma.

"Of course, I agree that teachers should not be burdened with administrative work and should focus on academic and personality aspects. This is because the performance of the education sector should also be measured by the emotional stability of the teachers," he said.

Ahmad Zahid said this when launching the Deputy Prime Minister's Cup Football Carnival and Bagan Datoh Parliamentary Constituency Excellence Awards for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) 2015 at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Perkasa here today.

Also present were Perak Human Resources, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya, state police deputy chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan, state education director Rozi Puteh Ismail and Hilir Perak Education Department officer Sulaiman Samsudin.

Ninety-five students from 11 schools who scored excellent results in SPM and STPM examinations received cash incentives of RM500 each.
