Terengganu MB rubbishes rumours that he will be replaced

Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has rubbished rumours that his days as Terengganu Menteri Besar might be numbered, saying that it is being spread by irresponsible parties who want to disunite UMNO members in the state.

He added that these rumours are not new as it has been going on ever since 2008 when he began to lead the state in the General Elections.

Ahmad said that he leaves his political future in the hands of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“Let him make the decision. I have already said that Terengganu is 17-15 (the number seats held by BN and Pakatan Rakyat in the State Assembly). That is the situation,” he added.

He made the statement after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between state-owned company Epic Berhad and Felcra Berhad on Wednesday.

Ahmad Said’s position has been the subject of attention after Mingguan Malaysia columnist, Awang Selamat, claimed that Najib’s administration is about to make changes regarding the positions of two menteris besar soon.

However, Awang Selamat did not name the two menteris besar or which states are involved. He did mention that he is in support of the move because it will inject fresh leadership to the states.

Telong state assemblyman, Rozi Mamat, who is said to be Ahmad Said’s replacement has requested that the speculation cease as it will only worsen the situation.

“Speculation in Terengganu has never stopped. I hope those who are spreading these rumours stop doing it,” he said.

BN holds power in seven states; Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, and the menteris besar are appointed by UMNO.
