Parents should always monitor their children's activities to prevent them from getting involved in dangerous organisations like the IS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) and the Sabah, Sarawak Keluar Malaysia separatist group.

Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said there were some young people in the country who were influenced by the activities of these groups and were now facing legal action.

"Their ability to recruit young people with their false struggles is worrying. To date, there have been several of our young people who not only joined them in the IS territories as supporters but also became directly involved in military activities such as suicide bombers.

"Going by the experience of neighbouring countries, we should also give the separatist group serious attention," he said in a statement here on Sunday.

He gave the assurance that monitoring bodies or intelligence units from the police force and the military had the ability to monitor the movements of these groups and would not let them grow to the point they could threaten the security of the nation.
