Tourism industry suffer estimated RM105 million lost

It is estimated that Malaysia will lose RM105 million due to the cancelation of reservations by tourists from China since the disappearance of flight MH370.

Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz did not deny that the situation could cause his ministry to amend their target of attracting 28.8 million tourists.

In fact, Nazri admits that this is no longer a priority. However, he is confident that the situation will improve.

A Malaysian Association of Hotels representative said that the cancelation of reservations by the Chinese have had an impact and this could continue for several months.

However, businessmen from China are confident that Malaysia will remain table and they want the trade relations to continue and improve.

Many have predicted that the tragedy of MH370 wil have an adverse affect on the trade relations between China and Malaysia. But records obtained from MATRADE shows otherwise.

Deputy CEO, Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud said that the success of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2014 is proof of their commitment.

Dzulkifli said this at the MOU signing ceremony between the Kuala Lumpur Malay Chamber of Commerce and the Islamic Shaanxi Chambers of Commerce. The agreement will foster the collaboration between the two in developing the halal industry in China.
