UMNO delegates offer Al-Fatihah to missing party member
Delegates at the Umno General Assembly have offered the Al-Fatihah to an Umno division committee member and his son who went missing in floods in Kuantan yesterday.
The recital of the verse was led by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the outset of his presidential address before 5,726 delegates at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.
Jamali Jani, 45, who is Pekan Umno division committee member, and his son, Megat Mohd Nazli, 17, were feared drowned when they fell off their boat into flood waters in Kampung Sungai Isap at 7.30pm last night.
Kuantan police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff, in a text message to Bernama this morning, said a search and rescue operation for the duo was continuing.
"The duo were believed to have been trapped in a whirlpool, causing their boat to overturn. They were swept away by strong currents.
"The search and rescue operation was mounted by the police, Fire and rescue Department and Civil Defence Department," he added.
They were believed to be moving personal belongings from their house, which was inundated, when the incident occurred.
