Mother of Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, Yammy Samat will leave it to UMNO if the party wants to take action against her for supporting her daughter during the Teluk Intan by-election held last month.

Yammy said, her action for supporting her daughter’s campaign during the by-election was done out of love and based on mother-daughter relationship.

“A mother’s love for her daughter is until Jannah (heaven). So, if UMNO wants to sack me just because I supported the daughter I gave birth to, then it is up to them,” she told Astro AWANI on Wednesday.

UMNO secretary-general, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on Tuesday said the party has sent a show cause letter to Yammy for allegedly campaigning for her daughter who was the DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election.

Tengku Adnan said, Yammy has to reply to the show cause letter within 14 days for consideration of the next action to be taken based on the party’s constitution.

“We will give her (Yammy) a show cause letter for her to reply within 14 days. We will give her a chance to reply on the reasons why she should not be suspended or fired.

“After that period, whether she replies or not, the matter will be brought to the Management Committee to be considered before her membership status in the party decided by UMNO Supreme Council,” said Tengku Adnan.

Yammy however told Astro AWANI that she has not received the show cause letter yet.

“When I receive the letter, I will decide whether to reply or not.

“This is actually a very small matter because I am just a member, I do not hold any position,” Yammy added.

During the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31, Dyana Sofya, 27, lost to Barisan Nasional candidate, Datuk Mah Siew Keong, 53 by a majority vote of 238. Mah received 20,157 votes while Dyana Sofya garnered 19,919 votes.
