The unity enjoyed in the country is the result of the continued commitment of the government in ensuring the involvement all races in its development, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
The Transport Minister said that the fact that all the races came together to celebrate the Chinese New Year was clear proof of the success of the nation's leadership in forging multi-racial harmony.
"It shows the commitment of the government and the leadership of the prime minister who focuses on the welfare of all races, is dedicated to principle of moderation and inclusiveness in developing Malaysia which is made up of people of various races and religions," he said.
Liow said this at the national-level Chinese New Year open house in Dataran Bentong here on Sunday which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and wife Datin Seri Junaini Kassim and Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
Liow also urged the people to support Najib's Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) vision saying that it would chart the country's progress over the next 30 years.
Adnan in his speech urged the people to enhance solidarity so that Malaysia could reach greater heights.
More than 20,000 guests attended the open house which began at 2.30pm. Apart from the sumptious dishes, they were entertained to cultural performances of the various races in the country to reflect the multi-racial harmony inherent in Malaysia as well as lion and dragon dance performances, which are a must at Chinese New Year open houses.
Popular artistes like Aiman Tino, Sheng Quang, Yuni Wu and Datuk Jefry Din also rendered songs to make it a more joyous occasion.
The event, jointly organised by the Tourism and Culture Ministry and the Pahang government, also showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese community.
