Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) is prepared to play a key role in the establishment of a global peace centre in the country named as King Salman Centre for International Peace.

Vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Musa Ahmad in a statement here Thursday, said the setting up of the centre involving the university was an appreciation of USIM to cooperate with Saudi Arabia's Defence Ministry and the Muslim World League (Rabitah al-Alam al-Islami).

"We are grateful for being entrusted to take on the challenges of setting up the global peace centre. We are indebted to the top leadership of the country and Saudi Arabia for the confidence in USIM to set up King Salman Centre for International Peace as a major agenda for the country and the international community," he said.

On Wednesday, both Malaysia and Saudi Arabia issued a joint statement on an agreement to build the peace centre to eradicate narratives issued by radical and extremist parties.

The agreement on global peace centre which will be launched in three months was reached between the governments during the visit of King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud to Malaysia this week.
