Vaccination has more benefit than harm, IMAM president says
He said medical practitioners faced a great challenge in educating and instilling awareness among the public on the importance of vaccination.
Vaccination provides more benefit than harm, thus, proving that it does not contradict with Islamic requirements, said the president of the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMAM), Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Mohamad.
"It is sad when vaccination is linked with conspiracies and others, leading to some Muslim parents to not send their children for vaccination. "As a result, the children have weak immune system which condition can be fatal," he added.
He said children who are not vaccinated are exposed to the risk of getting illnesses such as measles, mumps, rubella, polio and tuberculosis.
Dr Abdul Rahim said medical practitioners faced a great challenge in educating and instilling awareness among the public on the importance of vaccination.
