Vapers need to visit pharmacy for their next fix

E-cigarette liquid which contains nicotine can only be sold by licenced pharmacists and registered medical practitioners.

Director General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today said that the sale of nicotine by other parties is against the law.

"Liquid electronic (e-liquid) containing nicotine is required to be registered under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulation 1984, and Sale of Drugs Act 1952.

"It can only be supplied by licenced pharmacists and registered medical practitioners and has to be recorded,” he said pertaining to the regulation of sales and use of electronic cigarette and vape.

The decision was made during the first meeting of the Special Committee on Electronic Cigarette here today.

On October 30 this year, the Cabinet made the decision not to ban electronic cigarettes and vape.

But electronic liquid containing nicotine is controlled under the Poisons Act 1952 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
